Was accosted today in a car park by some old guy in his 80s who wanted to know where we get belts for Boris.
Turned out he used to be a Daf mechanic in a Yorkshire dealership and has been offered an Ovlov 343 vario that's been hibernating (garaged) somewhere on Anglesey since it broke a belt several years ago.
But not just any Ovlov, it's another Black Beauty!
I've pointed him towards the DOC and ED (he does use t'internet) and offered any help we can if he does decide to take it on. I['ve also asked him to ket me know if he decides not to because I'm sure I could find someone to help save it if needed? ;D

Oh wow! I'm an Anglesey boy myself (although I no longer live there, but all my family do), so if you do hear that the Black Beauty is up for sale I would be extremely interested. An early 343 on an 'EY' numberplate is the stuff that my dreams are made of...

You'd be the perfect custodian Sion, plus it will save you waiting until I'm dead to prise the keys to my one out of my cold, dead hands.* ;D
*probably, I've no foreseeable plans to ever sell.

At the moment the bloke I met is looking to have it himself, but if that changes I'll try to make sure it's announced here first As for photos, I'll do what I can but he was being a little cagy about exactly where it is (understandable I guess if it's cheap and available!)

Heard a little more about this today. It may be available after all - apparently in nice condition, passed an MOT about 5 years ago then broke a belt and has been garaged since. We've been thinking we really need something with a bit more loading room for the watches and clocks so right now I'm feeling very tempted indeed. The only problem is that in order to justify (and afford) it we'd have to thin the fleet, which would mean putting Tilly up for sale. Might struggle there though cos I'm not sure if there'd be much call for a 46 year old Daf Daffodil 32? Will certainly be arranging to go and have a look / get some pics whatever we decide

But surely an old car like that would only get scrap value? ;D

No, you'll get plenty if you break her up.
