Welcome back all to the latest happenings at Essex DAFs.
Saturday was to be our main day for DAFfing and I was to meet Dan and Matt at Essex South, Dan with his Ovlov 66 estate and Matt with Yolanda the 55 estate.
The reason for this was to visit nearby Dave (aka Flannelracing) who had some surplus spares that we were to relieve him of. These were initially offered with his 46 estate project that is currently up for sale, however as it is still for sale we were able to buy the spares separately. There's nothing really wrong with Dave's 46 estate and it will make a very nice project. We do seem to have a lot of project cars at the moment so sadly she is not one for us, but we do hope someone can step in and save her.
Down at Dave's, the parts were ready waiting for us.
There was much banter and some laughs too. We did feel for Dave and his barn's fight against mother nature and the planners. He really did need to start clearing some bits. We were shown some choice parts for other classics before Matt found something belt driven and suddenly had an itch to scratch! ;D
Now, talking of bicycles... readers of our last report may recall that Matt rescued a bicycle from a skip recently.
Well, we now have some history for it. It is actually George's and was bought for him by his father as a 'sweetner' as the family was about to move from Romford to Colchester in 1946. Yes, 1946! It was bought new at a time in post war Britain when such things were hard to obtain, but George's father was friendly with somebody who owned a bicycle shop. George tells us that he rode the bicycle for many a year including one journey to Romford, although he took the train back home! ;D A few years ago some scrote stole the back wheel, but who knows, we might even get it going again.
Sorry, I digress. So, back at Dave's. We were shown a very nice R plate 76/77 Honda 90 that he wishes to sell. Sorry for the gloomy pictures as there is less light in that end of the barn. It was lovely and clean with just 960 miles and no frame rust! She needs a new ignition barrel and key but otherwise all seems ok with the engine turning by hand. If anyone is interested then Dave wants £300 firm for it. Well, any less and he'll put it back on the road himself and quite frankly I don't blame him.
Time came to load up the spares.
Dan was to take interiors and glass. The front seats will be going on the coupe and the rest will come to Central when he next visits.
Yolanda took miscellaneous spares...
...whilst Rover did the heavy stuff - a 750cc engine, a 850cc engine and a 46 rear axle.
Matt and I were then to proceed to Central and all went well. In fact Rover's rev counter made an impromptu and rare appearance. ;D Wow, three gauges working at the same time, captured for posterity.
Of course, there was time for a brew before unloading.
Lugging two engines about was tiring but we got there eventually.
We did find an unidentifiable part though, can anybody identify it for us?
Spares unloaded, Matt and I popped down the road for a well earned pint at The Old Courthouse Inn.
Sunday was to see Matt sort through the spares and get them put away in the right places. There's always work to be done at Central.
Well, that's all from us for now.
Cheese,
33G.
