Right, OK. Welcome back all to the world that is Essex DAFs. We hope all you DAFfers out there had a most enjoyable xmas. Now that's out of the way for another year, one can crack on with the DAFfing. That's exactly what Matt and I did this afternoon. Not that we got that much done that is, but there was much tea and banter nonetheless. Matt has been driving Dorothy around the farm regularly and had taken her out of the museum for her weekly constitutional this morning. I had the pleasure of being driven around the farm in her and very sweet she is too. We sorted spares out for Derek (speedo cables) and some duff windscreen squirters for Joe's polybushing project. We also looked for a wheel for Rudolph (you have a PM Marcus). Farmer George popped over for a cuppa and a chat and we started work on the blue 66. Neither of us had changed cylinders or shoes on a 66 before but we had reasonable success. Matt had found a new brake cylinder which we got connected to the brake line plus bleed nipple inserted. Matt also got the fiddly 'E' clip on and within about 30 seconds too; a job which had previously caused Martin and I much gnashing of teeth. Turning to the springs we fitted the top spring to both shoes and then fitted the shoes to their relative places. The bottom spring, we figured would then be easier - there's more of it to grip with pliers for starters. We were defeated by a lack of light in the end and had to leave that spring for next time. That also explains the lack of photos. Hopefully we'll get that finished next time and the other side too. At least we learnt some lessons today. All too soon it was time to leave and leave I did, with some electrical components for Animal as she seems to keep blowing fuse number 4. This fuse controls indicators, brake lights, the heater and vacuum control. Martin suspects that the slowly flashing indicators and pointing to a problem with the flasher unit and that is the first suspect. We've also been told that the other point to check is the earths in the boot by the boot catch. Fingers crossed Martin will find it. Well, that's us for now. Cheese, 33G.
