The DCN (DAF Club, Netherlands) recommends a 20w-50 motor oil for the DAF engines. As far as the ATF A/A....Any good quality Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) will be fine for the Variomatic. I believe the "A/A" variation was an old style grading system, which no longer applies.

Yes, that's the advice I follow.
Unless you are taking the vario apart you shouldn't need worry about the ATF in the sealed part. The main gears are lubed with standard gear/diff oil.

An update on progress with Sophia, still waiting on the hinge welding , but after a fuel pump rebuild she is now running. I found a pair of manifold brackets among the spare that came with her,so the engine is on its way out to replace them. The brakes have been stripped cleaned and reassembled, the bottom of the car checked for rot, none found . Last but not leased the belts and vario pulleys checked and both in good condition . _ Almost ready for coming out.

Not a problem Mick, well done at doing what you have already done, keep up the good work... Result with the brackets but keep the broken 1's for repair
