I'm not baffled by a man in your position John, but I am by those a few counties away.

John...very nice bonnet and please bring it over with you in August so i can fit to Mimi ;D Rich...the reason i asked John for samples is because of the hassle Ken has been having with his paint recently ...saying that,Ken did have a tin made up which was a very good match but i would still like to compare them both

You're never going to get a perfect match either with some colours (good old red) or 40 yo paint. Best to start from scratch. As far as I know, any DECENT paint supplier will mix or match those colours. If they can't mix or supply a match they shouldn't be in business.

A rather cold day to be DAFfing today (only 6C all day ) but I needed to do some carb work on Sarge. After speaking with Matt Stapper we determined that the problem has to be either the accelerator pump bellow or clogged jets. So, off with the carb... I could not have been that lucky. The bellow was new and in perfect shape. Oh well, I just dumped the whole carb in a vat of cleaner to soak until sunday...we'll see what happens then. John

;D ;D ;D ;D I was pulling my hair in frustration...because there is so little information on the Solex 32 ESHA-2 carb (not in the factory manuals and not on line). When I removed the Carb the secondary Choke flap was found lying off it's mount. Hmmm...how did that come off and where does it go? After removing the entire assembly I discovered that the mounting hole had become slightly elongated and would not stay on. Solution...a tiny stainless washer and everything stayed perfectly. The carb soaked for a while, the jets were changed out, Microswitch (THANKS MATT ) replaced and back on. Two pumps of the pedal and Sarge was running so much better. ;D ;D Now to find out if the Vacuum valve needs a rebuild or I have a torn Bellows in the Vario. John

Good work John.
The difficulty with the paint is that Mimi is in Essex and the paint shop and I aren't lol++++. all things considered it is a very close match as Matt said. Plus it isn't 2K paint (woohoo).

What secondary choke flap John? There is only one barrel, so is it the throttle butterfly or choke flap?
Also, there's not enough pics of what you describe.
And did you jot down the microswitch details? Was it a Honeywell? Part number?

The choke flap (butterfly) is a two stage bit....the smaller flap is mounted on a spring system behind the primary flap and operateds with intake pressure not with the lever. I thought it was kind of a strange set up myself and have never seen anything like this before. Without the smaller flap in place the choke only works 1/2 way. Received an e-mail this morning from Ronny in Holland...he has secured a new windscreen for "Postal Pete" for an unbeleivable 200.00 Euros. ;D ;D ;D ;D Now, to get it here in one piece. John

Ah, yes, you've reminded me now that the choke flap has a spring loaded plate attached to it...
Cracking news on the windscreen front! ;D
