Butterscotch now has the correct shoes and new cylinders...she is back on the road. ;D ;D Thanks to Pete for purchasing the correct set of shoes and shipping them to me (because the UK vendor did not ship here). So true John! ;D And I hope you enjoyed the Rayleigh and Eastwood times. Feel free to look in the property classifieds for a nice farm house with a gigantic barn in the back garden.

Very strange situation Matt. The book shows one type of Cam but my DAF has something completely different and without knowing exactly how and what it does there is no wat to position it properly. I' ll be checking the parts manual today for further knowledge (I hope). ;D ;D

Yuppers Nick... ;D If you look directly below the spline that circular bit is the shoe adjustment Cam (there is also one directly above). Hence, one for each shoe. But...I am baffled as to the proper start position for new shoes since there is no apparent shoe to drum contact at the moment. John

Duh John. Girling snail cams. They move against the shoe pegs to push the shoes out. What's the problem There's a peg on each shoe (circled red) that bears against the outside edge of each snail cam (circled green is the bottom one). At the snail cam's smallest point the shoe is furthest in. As the square peg on the back is rotated clockwise (looking from the BACKPLATE side) the snail cam moves the shoe peg which pushes the shoe outwards, until you get to the end of the cam, where is drops back down to the minimum position. Now if the snail cams are knackered, then either the ridges on the snail's back are smooth, or the thing is too loose on the backplate. The snails have springs between them and the backplate and are originally riveted together. Replacement can be had which use slim locknut, but the ones in the picture look original.
