My wife just complains about my cars and hers started making a "funny noise" the other day. Well at least she told me this time!! So that's a 300%increase in information. I got to it to find it leaning at an alarming angle it is a nissan terrano the front drivers tyre was not just flat the tyre was off the rim and raped around the suspension with the wires hanging out all over the place and the car would not move. That was my fault as well!! I still can't work that out.

Lol ok can she cook and work a washing machine and iron? If not has she got any friends who can? You see I am always looking on the bright side glass half full and all that. Cider of course. Half empty is rubbish.

Update !
Following a long period of pre-contemplation, work on Ena has finally begun !
I've so far managed to take manifolds etc. off the head, remove the valvegear and undo the head bolts. Next step would be to knock the head off with my BFH, remembering your advice to turn rather than lift it !
This will hopefully reveal the cause of the overheating and determine what the next step will be.

Update ! After a few more hours of swearing (with brief periods of work inbetween), Ena's engine has been decapitated : Bottom end looks good, and as you can see my anti-paranoia liner clamps have been duly installed ! The head is a bit of a sad story : it's not particularly corroded, but I suspect it's warped (as it ran with no coolant for a couple of miles). In addition, three of the four spark plug threads have been helicoiled to a rather poor standard (and I'm only guilty for one of those repairs !). I've therefore decided to take the head off my spare engine and see what state that one is in. I'll then decide which of the two to use for Ena.

Update !
After yet another long period of pre-contemplation, I got round to dragging my spare engine out of storage and taking the head off.
First impression is that it looks OK, no corrosion anywhere and none of the spark plug threads appear to have been repaired before (previous head had three helicoils in !!!). I'll disassemble and clean it in the following weeks, and I'll then need to decide how far I want to go with machining etc.
The aim is to have Ena back on the road within the next couple of months, then I can get started with Laura !
