Yep, running happily on a mix of 50% fresh unleaded, 50% stale unleaded (there were 20 litres of the stuff in the tank when I took it off) and a bit of posh ELF lead replacement additive.

Great! When I owned her before Ken I sunk 30 quid into the tank so glad it's getting used. Shame of it is I drained the old fuel and it was still flammable so would have been ok-ish.... doh!

Probably a couple of thousand miles of use. I'm off for a big weep now....

Update time !
Spent some time with Ena this morning, and I have good news and bad news...
Good news : She's ready for her MoT.
Bad news : I sprayed some WD40 around No.3 plug and it looks as if a tiny amount of exhaust gases finds its way through the helicoil when the engine is cold. This doesn't seem to affect the running of the engine and you can't see it when the area around the plug is dry, but I suspect that the head will need to come off in the future either to be repaired or replaced with a known good one.
So, Mac, perhaps spending those 300 euros wasn't such a bad idea... Doing precision work with hand tools on your driveway can be hit and miss.

Was it a brand new plug that you fitted? If not, you may get a perfect seal with a new plug and washer. Whatever happened to the days when you could get plug washers separately?

Try refitting with the threads greased. It provides a little extra seal and helps make sure the torque is right - if the coil (or the new thread in the head) is slightly distorted then a torque wrench can read "tight enough" when it isn't. Lubricating the threads helps overcome that.

Good call, but I did grease the plug with copaslip prior to fitting (you can actually see the tub in the background of the tap picture above).
I think I'll just have to live with it for now, and see how it goes. If I'm lucky the leak will disappear as the engine sees a bit more use, if I'm unlucky the plug will get spat out when I'm doing 70MPH on the M3.
Either way, I am now VERY interested in your spare head, Joe !
