So glad to hear all ended well. It is always a worry selling an "unknown" as you can't know if it will be reliable if you've never actually used it! I had the same problem when I went to collect Priscilla the 66 from Luton and ended up on the back of an AA wagon, so I know how you feel. It can't have been nice though in the weather we had. Naturally I feel crap about it but I know that you are the right person to get her sorted. There is a basis for a truly terrific car there. Gremlin does seem a very appropriate name but hopefully she can shake that off sooner rather than later!

New set of tyres coming on monday. Full set of 155 70 continentals as I bulked at the price of the vredstien 135s that are now available which came to nearly £150 a tyre.
Gremlin once again lived up to her name today. Nothing that stopped her driving home but it seems my intermittent charging issue is now a non charging issue. So a new set of dynamo brushes are in order I think.

She misbehave again last night and ended up trailers home again. Engine started misfiring badly and the car would grind to a halt every time she had to go uphill. Restarting was possible but she had to be allowed idle for a few minutes before being able to rev. Then she would be able to move maybe 50yds before everything started again.
Discovered a rather crispy fuel pump diaphragm at the road side which I swapped out but she still is showing symptoms of fuel starvation.

Ten days ago, I did mention the fuel pump.
A fresh diaphragm is start, but is hee-haw use if the pair of one-way valves aren't doing anything.

So why the fuel starvation? Is something blocked?
An able pump should have the fuel filter full with no leak back. Is the bottom half of the pump fine? Have you cleaned the float bowl out? Made sure the jets are clear?
How is the new fuel filter looking? Time for a new one yet?
Checked the ignition as well?

Been working on her again this afternoon and can confirm that we now have a strong and regular fuel supply. I moved the inline filter to between the carb and fuel pump and the pump is now strong enough to leave the supply to the carb pressurised even 5 mins after switch off. As some cars can have problems pulling through a filter but none pushing through one. And to anwser Mac's question the filter still looks brand new the fuel that is coming through is clear and free of detritous.
She is running a lot sweeter but I still have a couple of problems. Still getting a missfire under load, although not as bad as before,so suspect coil is or condenser breaking down under load. Will chuck a new pair on and see if that fixes it.
Other problem is still no charging. Dynamo brushes are nearly new and moving freely but still not charging. I suspect the problem is probably the regulator which sods law is a fapping sealed unit grrr. But need to find my multimeter and check the dynamo output first.

so suspect coil is or condenser breaking down under load. Will chuck a new pair on and see if that fixes it. How about trying one, then the other? Coils are rather reliable things compared to condensers and how are the HT leads, plugs and points? I suspect the problem is probably the regulator which sods law is a fapping sealed unit grrr. But need to find my multimeter and check the dynamo output first. Does it look like this? (clicky pic):

HT leads plugs and points are new. I too am leaning towards condenser as opposed to coil and will try them one at a time else I wont be able to say which actually caused the problem. One thing I really do hate with a passion is intermittent faults!!

Broke into the sealed regulator. Now she's charging again.
