Hi, road test went quite well. The first problem was that it was obvious the clutch needs looking at,the van struggled up the slope out of the farmyard, slipping like hell but did improve slightly once warm. After a couple of miles at a junction it cut out and after a few minutes found the new contacts had closed up.The next thing was the dodgy looking generator belt which parted. So once I've finished re-panelling the sides where the badly fitted windows were fitted,it's out with the engine.Matt has supplied me with a 12 volt starter which I will fit once the engine is on the bench. I've almost finished filling the better of the two window openings, quite intensive and fidderly work. I had to come up with a design so that I could use my spot welder, which I saw as the only way to prevent any distortion from welding.I have finished the replacement metalwork needing welding. Will take pics.............starider

Hi, still taking pics as the work progresses, both "window holes" filled in and ready for rubbing down and priming. All the braking system replaced.Found one engine mounting de-vulcanised so it's something else to do whist the engine is out.I'm in the process of removing the fuel tank to allow me to fabricate and weld in a new rear cross member. Once this done and the tank refitted,I'll take the engine out and then it's a 2 day clear out of the barn to allow the van space for bodywork and the removal of the wheels to be powder coated. Hoping Matt has the parts I need!!..............starider

Hi,I hope no one believes I towed without strapping down the van.I used all the correct straps etc.Towed perfectly for 350 miles. The Ford Connect is the best towing vehicle I have owned[sorry the wife's van]. Note the odd rear lights, the nearside is the original[have already found, and fitted two new ones].......starider

Hi Matt,
Something else I need is the plastic shield which slots in front of the engine.
Thanks
Tony

I'll have a rummage in my garage. If I have one, it's yours!

Thanks Andrew, I have put in a large order with Matt,so it will come with the other"stuff" I've ordered.I do appreciate you help. Got the tank out yesterday, so can now fabricate and weld in a new cross member. The tank was a bit of a pig to remove but a friend who had a windscreen business was on hand to help.Anyone who has removed a 33 tank will know it is held in with "s" shape screen rubber.Refitted using cord he says.
Regards
Tony

I was surprised how little holds a 33 tank in Tony..the rubber seal does most of the work..
