This 1962 DAF 750 Pick-Up is the pride of my collection. "Ducky", as she is now called, has a long sorted history (mostly bad). Ducky is only 1 of 6 remaining Type 30 Pick-Ups left in the world out of 810 originally manufactured.
After years of service Ducky found her way to a Farm in Pennsylvania where she sat (serving as a Chicken coup) for almost 20 years.
After being "rescued" from the farm by Kaz Wysocki in 1988 Ducky was sold to my friend Paul Tryon in 2003.
This is where my involvement begins...
In 2005 Paul asked me to restore the truck and get her in running order, so she was loaded and headed to Vermont. Since Paul had post-polio it was impossible for him to do any work himself.
This was going to be a monumental assignment (the truck was in very poor condition) which had to be completed in a fairly short period of time.
After many months of mechanical repairs Ducky was ready to head for the body shop in 2006 for major floor & body sheetmetal work.
In May of 2006 she was in primer and almost ready for new color.
It took untold number of hours to fabricate all the new panels out of metal and smoothen out the body to get to this point.
Fresh out of the paint shop-
Still many many hours of re-assembly ahead of me.
Finally in August, 2006 we were able to officially test drive "Ducky" with Paul at the wheel.
She looked GOOD and ran even better. ;D
My dear friend Paul passed away in September, 2007 after enjoying the truck for about 1 year. I was told by his wife that using "Ducky" during that time made Paul very happy and she noticed the change in him.
Paul had left instructions in his Last Will & Testiment that the truck should go to me for safe keeping.
After getting the truck back in Vermont I had time to finish up with a major upgrade and detailing so it could be taken to car shows.
This is a wonderful (and rare) addition to my DAF collection filled with good memories.
