Had a look at my better half's 33 earlier which has somewhat floaty steering to say the least, around the midway point. And had started knocking in the straight-ahead position. Problem quickly found to be a seized track rod end that ended up with an alarming amount of play rather quickly Wow. Anyway, no damage done but obviously I smugly advised her I have several new sets in my stash of parts. Five minute job, said I. All the other ends I have which are marked as DAF 750, 31, 32, 33 are all identical but are somewhat larger than the originals: The old one just cannot be removed (even with a splitter) but I have left it soaking in penetrating oil in the vain hope it may free itself without resorting to violence. So better photos will come when it releases itself! My leg is very painful today so violence would be the easy route to take! Does anyone have any of the original joints (car is 1970) or should I just order a pair from Danny? Many thanks! Howard

Those replacement joints look perfectly fine to me. As long as the threads/tapers match I'd go ahead and fit them.
To separate the taper on the old one. Use a pair of BIG hammers. If it don't shift, find some BIGGER ones. ;D

DAF Nut
Those who say it can't be done, should not interupt the people doing it !

If a pair of big hammers don't work...get a pair of BIGGER hammers... if that still does not work...get the proper tool

Fork type joint splitter and hit it hard - I find about a 2 lb hammer usually does it The problem is finding a fork splitter that isn't too wide for these joints but they are out there!

I've got a splitter, but it is just too wide - another solution will be tried tonight!
I did try a pair of big 'ammers, but as it's not my car I'm somewhat more restrained. I'll try again later. My leg seems a bit better today - I even ran into work today (well, part of the way!) as these days I find I really want to. Kill or cure seems only to have cured at the moment - touch wood!

For the outer ones, a cheap crow-bar with a slot cut in the "straight" end works well. Cut the slot with an angle grinder so it just fits round the widest part of the taper pin (use the new joint as a guide). Then hammer like crazy on the bent end It also works for the inner ones, but not as well because bodywork gets in the way.
