Matt,
Here's my 2p worth...
Take a measurement from hex flange to hex flange, then decide on full lock either way if it appears to be the correct length.
Millimetres please
Some aftermarket stuff is within 10mm of each other. I've got down 260mm, but 250mm may will be long enough too. 270mm wouldn't be too long either. In fact if you got a load of different suppliers stuff out in front of you, there'd be a variation anyway.
OR risk it for a biscuit: go by my dodgy notes (untried and untested as I've not done a full overhaul on Dilly)

Pagid 70009See this link
HERE. If you look at that
ATE catalogue image, it shows the hex flange to flange length as
250mm and an end to end length of
14+250+11.3 = 275.3mmNow on that page, click on the
Firstline number
FBH6028, it'll come up with the Firstline catalogue image, and that shows as
256mm flange to flange and
280mm overall.If you click on
Delphi, it shows the same cars, but say
260mm length, but doesn't say where they measure from or to, but I assume it's flange to flange for that one.
Be careful chasing cross-reference to cross-reference, as you can work your way down in length to 240mm... which is fine for some applications, but not for others or you can wind up with something completely wrong as catalogues aren't infallible.
If you need a slightly longer one, then I suggest:

HEREIf the shop wants a reg no, tell them to "get tae (f**k)". Find a place that will either have the above in stock (bring the old one with you) or find a place that has a paper catalogue. In the back of the catalogue is usually all the pictures with fittings/threads/lengths.
I'd probably start at Euro Car Parts first, then work my way round the local motor factors.
But then again, if I were lazy...
250mm (280mm) one = Audi 80/90
Quattro (non-Quattro is shorter) =
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150801827444265mm (295mm) one = Ovlov S60 rear =
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280823753414and sit on backside and let postie do the leg work. ;D
Hope this helps.
