and make the occasional encouraging comment... What, like: "you could have done that in less than an hour with Volvo Special Tool 999 5897"?

I just wondered if the belts that were taken off 345DL's car were the right ones for it! If the adjuster was at its smallest setting, the belts had been damaged during fitting and were THAT tight maybe they were the wrong ones (perhaps Daf/Volvo 66 ones?) A non-Daf or Volvo garage might not have ordered the right belts or thought them all the same. I've heard Daf owners in the past complain about how noisy Roflex belts were, but I didn't realise they were a different profile as well.

DAF/Volvo 66 belts are exactly the same as V300 ones.

DAF/Volvo 66 belts are exactly the same as V300 ones. My apologies, I'd assumed they were bigger for some reason! Are the tensioning springs in the secondary units the same as well, or are they stronger?

The early 343s had secondary spring tension down at 500N. The later ones are 800N. The changeover point is in the green books somewhere. Fingers aren't compatible with any secondary unit so be careful (exclaimation mark isn't working on my keyboard which is odd as the same key works they letter Q and that is fine. Must need a reboot...)

If my "O" (& "A") physics from the 1970's is remembered, 9.8 Newtons of force equates to 1Kg of weight; therefore 800 Newtons would be the same as about 72 Kg acting on your fingers... very painful!

theres enough force in them to make fingers very thin... and that includes the bone....
