For the past year, I've been many hours away from home for college. Not much work been done to the car overall, obviously, and it was very exciting to come home for my "Spring Break" (more like winter break here in the US. Snowing as we speak!). Alternator rebuilt and back in the car: As good as a job as the guy I sent it to did, I quite surely will not be using him again. Dropped that thing off way too long ago. Luckily I still remembered how everything went together, and viola! New everything inside, and looks brand new. Good news and bad news. It fixed the stoplight/blinker issue!! No more intermittent lights. However, I think this little bugger is bad: Alternator still wont charge the battery. Power into the regulator... and near zero power out. Always showed the battery's voltage in, with about 0.2V out. Probably dead. Not too uncommon, at least for the vintage yank tanks haha. The battery only had 11 volts and was steadily dropping over time. With the alternator rebuilt and the volt test across the regulator it certainly seems it's dead. Should I acquire a generic one that will fit the same purpose, or do you fine gents at Essex have a working OEM available? On another note, oddly, my coupe in particular perhaps, follows much more closely the Volvo 66 wiring diagram. The DAF 66 diagram doesn't even have the same number of fuses mine has. Is that weird, or what? Is it because it was the last year for DAF? Vince

Yes, thank you so much!!!! You're a life saver! I'll get it right away, but unfortunately I have to wait until I am back from school in 5 weeks or so to use it. So it may be a while until I get to it, but wow, thanks so much!

So according to the family back home my regulator is in. I also purchased a Renault water pump, which shall be replaced after the first car show, Rhinebeck (I know how much of a hassle those are and I only have 1 day after I'm home to get it ready haha so it can wait for only a one day 15 min ride haha). An oil change is in the waiting list too, I have the some old Quaker State cans (yes, good old metal cans!) I picked up for a buck a piece (at Rhinebeck last year haha), if they're still good they'll be going in. If not, some non-synthetic 20w50 will be going in haha. New anti-freeze and temperature sensor going in. I found a 70's Italian temperature gauge for 5 dollars at a yard sale. Fits in the lower panel too! No more dummy light! I was also given a 70's vintage Blaupunkt radio I'm going to try to wire in (previous owner hacked up the dash for one anyway). Going to be a spectacular year for the DAF this year!
Debating on the name Kymmie for her...she is a K-Series, and yes the lady-friend, Kymmie, is pushing for me to name her Kymmie hahaha. Thoughts?

The car comes first and your woman needs to learn the pecking order. Best get it sorted now rather than months down the line to save (her) potential heartache.

CUT AND PASTE FROM THE DCA ALERT: Just a nice, overdue update on the Coupe. Everything is going fantastically. Took it 130+ miles one way to the Manchester, VT show. Ran like a clock. Very exiting! Turned heads the whole way there and back. Pictures in the 2014 show thread. A cool picture the Sunday returning from Manchester, VT. Stopped in my hometown of Kingston, NY for food: Soon I plan on doing some more "personalizing." I want to add a vacuum gauge for the vario, and a temp gauge. I pose a question to you guys: do any of you know what temperature sensor I could use that will thread in to the Renault engine but is also set up for a gauge and not a dummy light? I have a Veglia Borletti gauge from an old Fiat I picked up for a $1 haha. It works, but not with the dummy light sensor that's currently in the car. The gauge is set up for an electronic sensor, too. I'll post some measurements tomorrow evening on the sensor. Here's a pic of the gauge I'm gonna put in: I also bought the little tees needed to hook up the vacuum gauge for the vario. Looking for a good looking, period gauge too. I'll likely end up getting one off of eBay. I'll likely build a small panel for them and hang it under the dash. I also plan on getting a new tach for it some day. Its a mighty small tach in the left of the two smaller slots in the center console dash. Weird! No light for night driving, and it't not period. I get a period one and put it in the top, larger one, and either the temp or vacuum gauge in the smaller one with the tach. The other has a working DAF VDO clock in it already! Thinking of MAYBE this vacuum gauge: www.ebay.com/itm/331136727758?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITMy friend gave me a 1970's Blaupunkt radio to fit into the slot that was hacked up in the dash. Hooked it up with temporary wiring to see if it worked, and that it did. Beautiful! Gonna build a nice faceplate for it and all. Should be great! I'll build and replace the hat shelf in the back which already has bad vinyl on it and put in speakers and wiring. The spotlights are now working. I had to run new wiring to them because something was wrong with the old ones and they just wouldn't work haha. All in all, a much better season with everything working, finally! Vince

Nice one Vince, good to see the old girl up and running. DAF VDO gauges are rare as hen's teeth. I'm told Skoda gauges do the trick but can't tell you which model. You might pick up something cheap from an Estelle or Rapide on eBay...

Well of course a set of DAF VDO gauges would be nice, but I already consider myself lucky to have the DAF clock! I think the Veglia Borletti gauge looks pretty good, too, so now I am just on the lookout for a sensor. Has anyone done this for their own car, already?
