LARGE UPDATE INBOUND
Sorry about being AWOL, guys!
In November, 2016, my wife and I got married!
In February of 2017, during my wife and I's delayed honeymoon in Sweden, actually, we put an offer in on a house in New London, CT, we we had moved to for my job a couple of years before. Sparing the frustrating details of purchasing said house, we moved in mid-July, 2017!!
About two weeks after moving in the water main burst, so that was fun. Needless to say, it was a lot of work:
But it was worth it:
The fun part was getting the 3 bay garage fixed up!
From this:
Getting worked on:
(note some of the floor was repoured, too)
Done!
Fun work inside and some action shots (the '68 Cuda is a friends that I am storing temporarily):
(Typical Jeep marking it's territory)
Garage is coming along, still have to get a functional workbench and put all the doors on the cabinets. Lighting is mostly done.
My summer has been busy so far. My wife and I made a conscious decision to spend our summer here and get everything done, but everything in the world has come up, stuff we can't say no to -- my brother's college graduation and party, my sister-in-law's master's graduation and party, my step-sister is getting married, so the wedding and festivities, my cousin is getting married, it's crazy!
BUT, I did have time to get the DAF out of the garage in April and get the dust off it!
Anyway, about a month ago... one of my worst nightmares happened. Long story short, I mistakenly left my daily driver's e-brake off, and it rolled down my long, steep driveway into the left-center post of the recently restored garage, and hit with such impact that it took the post right out of the concrete and continued about 4 more feet into the garage, hitting my Jeep and the DAF coupe. Pardon my French: frick.
The Jeep suffered literally no damage. Both cars were in neutral so they absorbed the damage pretty well. The Saturn, my daily, faired amazingly well, interestingly, also. The bumper cap on the driver's side was torn off, it slammed into the body and put about a 6" wide dent, and it slightly twisted the bumper, which I think I can get out as there is no creases. The dent is accessible from the backside, so I think I can bang that out, too.
fricking hell, what an air-headed move. It could have been much worse, hell I could have been in the garage! Anyway, after dealing with homeowner's insurance, work has commenced to re-repair this section of the garage, and get two new doors (again)
Needless to say, the past month I've gotten absolutely nothing done to any of the cars or the garage, or brought any of my cars to a show
This upcoming weekend is a BBQ we are hosting for friends.
I do have a show planned later this year for the DAF, so I have to fix the slipped timing chain and bodywork and whatnot, soon. I was at a cruise-nite a few weeks ago (without any of my cars), and a gorgeous 1965 Alfa drove in. In talking with the guy, I told him about the DAF. He said he had been meaning to talk to me since he saw it at the show a while back, and gave me his card, and invited me to an exclusive rare/exotic/odd-ball car show he runs in a neighboring town! I'm so excited to go!
Anyway, hope all is well with everyone else! I'm so sorry I haven't been on here much in the last year, I feel terrible about it. As for this upcoming year, I am planning the annual trip up to DCA Museum at John's, getting the 31 still up there at John's (sorry it's been so long, John! I feel bad!), planning on getting everything back to tip-top shape and hopefully getting back to DAF'ing again, soon!
Does anyone happen to have a driver's side B-body bumper guard!? Message me, I will obviously support with $$ and pay for shipping.
Thank you!
Vincent
