I have a dead piston and at the moment a dead car That really is a shame. There isn't a blockage in the ducting is there? If no one can come up with another piston for you quickly I will take one of Sophie and post it she wont be going on the road now untill spring anyway. Would just the piston, and rings be sufficient or would you want the head and barrel as well?

got back from work about 8 and after chipping the ice off the spanners, I cracked on and dropped the engine out of the daf, 9:50 I finished, left bellhousing and clutch drum in situ, nearside piston has left bits of itself down the barrel in various places, nearside head shows signs of cracking between spark plug hole and the exhaust valve seat, piston is obviously dead as a door knob.. and im shattered now.. pictures to follow

wa a touch cold outside as I prepared to get cracking... (about 8pm) my assistant had chosen a different place to be rather than assisting A layer of ice on the roof reminded me to get a wriggle on.. quick wiring diagram/photographic record Sad looking piston Didnt know what to do about that bloody suspension bar thing across the front so just took it off, so finally after an hour and 50 minutes I had this.. now waiting for my hot bath to run so I can soak my back and try to get it working for the morning..... thanks for checking in !

Hi UST and welcome to the Dark Side ;D Pretty sure Nick has an airfilter installed normally, guessing he pulled it off before taking tghe first photo seeing as he'd already started investigations the night before? Nick: I see what you mean about that piston. Not sure about replacing it though - dont you have some fine wet & dry left from doing the bodywork?

Hi Austin, no she runs a filter, was already removed before picture was taken, got no bonnet stay so use a stick. Joe the piston crown has pinched the rings, and theres a fair bit of piston smeared up an down the bore.. have located another piston and barrel (just need to confirm its the right side). Also picked up the 44 engine last night (nice 4 hr jaunt after work) so will pop barrels off that today to make sure the rings are ok and if they are then its heading into the car whilst I sort her original motor out properly

Good luck with that Nick. When Gavina's engine suffered some kind of heat seize it was the big end bearings that had crumbled away due to oil starvation. Not saying this is something that's happened to Gina but something to look out for.
