well just been recovered home by the AA . Wife had finally agreed to drive the daf and we were going great guns flying back from stratford after a bit of shopping, she pulls out to get past a line of cars stuck behind a truck and halfway along the manouvre we get a pop from the carb and suddenly we are on one cylinder, her panicking etc etc we get a gap and get to the shoulder of the road.. I do a quick look realise nothing is amiss (NS cylinder head a lot hotter than the other one) so call the men in yellow.. get peed off with all the trucks just missing us and eventually coax her into life and we manage the 1 1/2 miles to the services albeit at about 20mph and wait for the AA there, he comes does a quick compression test and rigid bars us straight home.. just having a cup of tea now (17:17) then im gonna brave the cold an pop the rocker cover off for a look.. hoping to god its not a piston but it will be what it will be.. reports will follow

cant shift 1 nut and bolt (bottom of 3 bolt flange to front exhaust box, everything else undid just fine, have seen a glimpse of piston crown and that seems intact, valves also look intact. Will bring nut splitter home tomorrow to sort out this annoying nut an bolt.. who in their right mind puts stainless and steel fittings together and hopes they will undo in the future?

My moneys on stuck valve or rocker and possibly bent push-rod as a result. Woould think more likely rocker than valve - the lubrication to them is a little hit & miss at the best of times with the oil being piped up the pushrods and it always seems to be the n/s that suffers most.

Sorry too hear the latest Gina update Nick. It's NOT what I wanted to hear after all the good reports lately. As Joe said....I would be looking more toward a stuck Rocker. Possibly a cracked Spark Plug (if you are using Bosch plugs). PS.... NEVER. NEVER mix Stainless & Steel. Slap that mindless person John
