Matt, can they not just be filled and painted as I seem to recall this being done in one of the classic car mags last year.

Splits and cracks shouldn't be a problem for the MOT as long as the metal interior is intact and it doesn't flex in your hands. Both Bruce and Gladys had cracked steering wheels which went through 3 MOTs at 3 different testing stations with not so much as an advisory for it. Bruce's really is quite bad as well. See the chunk missing on the right hand side?

Now stop making excuses and get it down the test station! Note: This matter was subject to a Service Bulletin and steering wheels were to be replaced FOC up to five years after delivery date. Stocks of the old type of steering wheels were to be returned by dealers. A small point on the SB is that no time allowance was given for this operation, so dealers may or may not have been inclined much to do the swap unless particularly pressed to.

That's the answer then Matt, take it to your nearest DAF dealership and request a replacement! ;D

I'll scan the SB one day. It covers all B-bodied cars up to a certain date.

It is possible to get steering wheels professionally repaired, even recast, but it is not cheap...

As Nick said or fill the bugger. Stick a less cracked one on and I'll fill t'other one on Tuesday. That way there is still a spare to hand.
