Probably just as well you couldn't get an MOT appointment last Friday with the brake and wiper switch / washer pump issues outstanding!

True but if I had been able to get an appointment id have had them done last week on the Thursday morning before taking it for test. It was just the brakes that needed doing for the MOT and that took 20mins to sort. The wipers were working as they had been wired up to a generic rocker switch, I just decided id rather they were working from the correct switch on the dash and not an extra one taped to it. Washers were also still working the rubber bulb isn't split just showing signs of perishing not that it matters as, as of this morning she has an electric washer pump.
Anyhow she is now ready to go for test but will probably wait for a couple of weeks as I just discovered the static caravan is being delivered on friday and I need £400 to pay for transport. Thats got to be the priority as in 2 months time I will be living in it.

Near disaster today thankfully averted but I will not be taking any risks after it and will be rewiring the whole car.
My godson (6 years old) was playing in the car this afternoon whilst we were sitting in the garden and he suddenly yelled smoke!! I lept up as fast as I could and pulled him out of the car, before diving back in the car and pulling the smoking wires off the headlamp switch, before they could catch light. This was not the best thing to do as I could have electrocuted myself, but at the time I really was not thinking anything other than stop fire. Thankfully I got away with burnt fingers and James is unharmed. I then immediately disconnected the battery. Im worried that none of the fuses blew. Im not prepared to take any risks with it as I think it likely was caused by the insulation within the loom breaking down, and allowing wires to cross whilst the kid was playing and pressing switches. As a result I intend to replace the whole loom, and will now do so on any Classic car I buy from now on unless I know its already been done.
Im just glad it happened when everyone was watching otherwise the car would have been burnt out.

Lucky Lucky Lucky....
I agree, never take it for granted that old wires will continue to function after a car has been stored outdoors.

Just managed to find a hardtop for this locally well 15 miles away anyway. It needs a little tlc but the price is right. Now who thinks I can this into the boot of a BMW 3 series estate. I don't really want to put it on the roof bars as suspect it might be a tad on the heavy side.

Hmm, my money is on it not fitting inside the boot, but good luck with that anyway. Glad to hear some progress is being made; even though you are laid up the Spitty is not entirely...

Got the hardtop for a hugely expensive price of £20 and am collecting it this afternoon. Its a bit tatty and will need a bit of TLC to make it presentable and a respray. This is what I would like some opinions on.
Ideally I would like it to be the same colour as the car but this is going to be difficult to achieve because all I know about the cars colour is that it is blue. Seeing as I am not the one who repainted it from its original russet brown, I have no idea what colour it was sprayed with or if it is even an original Triumph colour.
As such I thought a contrasting colour designed to complement the blue paintwork would be the best option as such I have included a poll to help me decide. If anyone here is good at photoshop and fancies doing some shops to show what the colours would look like on the car feel free.

Well, if you are just trying to spray a contrasting colour for only the hard top then I would recommend white. It's the easy answer.
The blue of the body is an odd one as in certain light it looks a bit purple. Ford had a colour in the late 1990s that they offered for the Fiesta (and perhaps other models) which I believe became known as 'burple'. Could this be the colour of your spitty? Worth looking into?

Roof now collected and its in better condition than the photos led me to believe It will need the paint stripped and properly rust treating, but it does look like it wont need to be welded which is a real bonus. The Headlining is very good so i hope I can remove it without damaging it so that I can treat the rust properly. Oh and as to the question of did it fit in the BMW? No it didn't as it was ever so slightly wider than the roof of the BMW which was a bit of shock. So it was transported as such.

Ive stripped the hardtop back to its bare bones today. But unfortunatly I was being optomistic when I said it didn't need welding. So far I have found 3 areas that need welding and one of them looks to be quiet involved. They are such 1 and 2. The bars that sit below the quater light windows are supposed to be double skinned, only the outer skin is missing in a lot of places and has been "repaired" with pog. I intend to make and let a new skin in on both sides. 3. Upon removing the rear window, im a glad I did, I discovered a lot of rot in the lower left hand corner of the window channel. This looks like a fairly complicated shape to replicate and it must be right for the window to fit. I can't say im looking forwards to that one. 4. On the right hand side the rearmost pillar needs a small patch let in. Its small fry compared to the rest. The first step I think is to get the whole thing sandblasted so I can properly see where it needs work. p.s. I got the headlining out intact but the bracing bars that run through it are rotten and in several pieces so I may have to replace it anyway.
