Just checking, how many wires should be on a 66 VCV?
On mine, the offside has 2 and the nearside has one (white)

What spare? All 3 should be in use...
Volvo one are the same in function, but have a second earth terminal (so 4 terminals in all) and a diode to avoid frying the tacho relay transistor.

I'm sure mine has 4, but on the nearside only one is connected (white) My spare also has 4 terminals. Also, what is the knack for removing/refitting the unit? those rubber bungs seem stuck for life !

The knack is patience and something to grip the nose of the rubber to elongate it and reduce its diameter. Looking at this: DAF 66 Vacuum System Schematic by macplaxton, on Flickr ...show the four terminal type. I've had a quick look through the books, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for. From memory the early types have a common earth with the through-body screws. So each of the lower earth tags should show continuity on the meter/lamp/whatever. The later types have their earths isolated, so an extra wire should be piggy-backed from the existing earth cable. I think. Variomatic Valve by macplaxton, on Flickr Here's an early 44 one-sider type. Note the terminal is part of a plate. EMV2 by macplaxton, on Flickr
