ok its not a proper daf name but its what she was known as by her previous owner and all who went in her, as you may or may not know the club secretary recently sent out an email in an attempt to find a home for this daf as its owner had sadly passed away and his brother was faced with the unenviable task of attending to his estate, which included this car and a rake of spares, I called, offered a rapid collection (house had already had an offer made on it) and went last night with a borrowed trailer and "Vernon" our peugeot expert to recover her from deepest wolverhampton.. all the way there you get the images in your mind, car sat in a dusty shed, car overgrown up side of house, car sat on 4 flat tyres buried up to the sills, you get the picture.
On arrival it was far from it, the car was sat on inflated tyres in a spotless garage beautifully lit with all the spares laid out in order some even boxed in plastic boxes and labelled ready for me to load up, I was told by the chap "dont give me the money till you see what your getting" on the way to his brothers house so to get to this almost clinical garage was a total shock to the system.
A quick appraisal revealed the car to be a late model 44 estate GL spec with the stainless trims on all the rubbers like Gina has, it also has had a volvo interior (high back seats) front and back fitted and apart from some side panel damage they appear to be in good condition, it has various extras, a full length webasto style sunroof, a very striking Thule roofrack, front Wipac spotlights, additional rear stop lights, vacumn gauge and other bits I still have to uncover..but enough rabbit heres some photos snapped today, yes parts of the car are filler, but then show me a 38 year old car without filler in, even Gina has filler over her new metal in places..
I can also confirm today, after offering a battery up it started and ran quite happily until the carburettor flooded, it also appears to have working brakes ..
plans are to do MOT remedial work only as the character this car has gained with 81,000 miles and 30 years of one man ownership I think deserves preserving a bit ;D
Edit: Fixed missing square bracket from picture 6 that wasn't showing.
