All the wiring and contacts are now good, Are you really sure? Chuck another good earth on it for good measure.

Thanks for the feedback, chaps.
Engine earth strap and contacts are good, I've tried adding an earth using a jump lead but to no avail.
Mac, I've seen that video and he really makes it look very simple. Unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate his results...

It's all in getting the joint hot enough. Otherwise just find a local bloke with a big iron that'll do it for some tea-boat funding.

Ordered and received a 100W solder gun, tried it and was infuriated to discover it still is not man enough for the job ! Next step would be to take out the blowtorch and try ozzie's method. If that doesn't work I reckon I'll reach the end of my tether and attack the bugger with the MIG ! Ozzie will like this (and it's probably in Spunkymonkey's "Bush Tucker & Mechanics Volume 1") Got an old dizzle glowplug handy? Watch on... and another link...http://www.africanxmag.com/soldering_or_welding_in_emergencies.htm

I like this type of problem. Good cables and clean terminals including battery wire direct to starter and earth to starter bolts. Wiz out the plugs She should spin free. Screw plugs home but disconnect the dissy incase she is firing miles to advanced or retarded on up travel. If it's not the starter or a tight engine or load on engine it's got to be a duff battery. No amps As she is turning over wiggle the dissy she should fire up.

Lovin the soldering iron glow plug if you use a 5 volt glow plug you can use the daf to power it but don't expect the battery to remain charged as the dynamo won't be man enough for long time soldering but enough for emergencies and work on the car.
Have you ever seen Indians welding !

All I know is, the 44 I cut my teeth on was so slow to turn over it amazed me there was enough momentum to crank. needless to say it never failed to start second or third turn.

Then it's timing... erm... time. Does anyone know how I can statically time the thing ? I haven't found any marks on the pulleys, but must admit I haven't looked particularly hard.
