Recently I have added yet another prize to the "collection" ;D A week ago I became the new (& third owner) of this 1978 Dolvo 343 DL LHD Variomatic Saloon. This is how the Dolvo appeared in 2010 when it was sold on Flea-Bay in California. Two and a half weeks ago (while it was in a Garage in Detroit, Michigan... THIS happened. To make a long story short...the insurance company "totalled" the car and allowed the owner to purchase it back. I purchased the car from it's current owner and will arrive in Vermont within two weeks for major surgery. Hopefully, the roof can either be repaired (or replaced) and the car back on the road by Spring...updates to follow. ;D John

Congratulations John - looks like you now have a DAF77 to add to your collection. Such a shame what happened to this car but glad you could save it. I'm sure you'll soon have her restored to her former glory.

Thanks Pete... Yes indeed, a DAF 77 (since it is still a first generation 343) This car also had (and will have) it's claim to fame. The 343, along with it's former owners are featured in the Richard Gere film "The Double" which is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2011. It was filmed in Detroit, which was tranformed into Paris for the July, 2010 shooting. I have a few photos from that filming so it will make an interesting conversation piece...I'll have to get one of the movie posters for the Museum. John

That is a heck of a dent John. I will watch with interest. Just a little dimple Ken. I will have to take some detailed photos of the roof and see what damage there is inside under the headliner when it arrives. With luck...it might be repairable, If not...then a new roof section will have to be found. John

Just Bondo over it, John. Not keen on using the stuff for rust but it'd fine for filling dents if the metal underneath is sound

John Project aero mk2 In fact make one for each model and see how many people you can hoodwink into thinking they are one of factory specials

Nope...no "Aero Project" for this car Paul. Just way too much work involved in making a SAFE cabriolet conversion. In either event it will remain a Saloon...wether by repairing the roof or replacing it completely. Everything is on track for the transport so the 343 should arrive here within two weeks. ;D John

Marilyn has been here for a few weeks now and some progress has been made.... She looks very respectable sitting between all my DAFs. ;D A close up view of the roof damage. After removing all the interior bits and headliner, this is the damage from inside. A hydraulic jack comes in handy for many uses. After about 7 hours work at least the Dolvo is drivable. ;D Still more work to follow... John

That deny is looking more respectable already John. If it does need a new roof skin then at least there will be nice strengthening ribs to attract it to.
