Well she seems to be sorted. New plugs, points, condensor and leads combined with old coil and she has a big fat spark. Also have fitted an electric fuel pump and the difference is amazing. No hesitation and no more missfires power is back and she is started instantly. Electric fuel pump has given me an extra layer of security too as I included a hidden key switch in the fuel pump circuit. Of course the pump is fused and run through a relay for safety.
Next gremlin has appeared though but not a major issue. Ignition key is not self returning from the start position so I have to remember to disengage the starter.

Try a little lube oil in the ignition cylinder Paul. If that does not solve the problem then the return spring has gone. Replacement would be in order, but if you can live with returning it manually I would not worry too much. John

Gremlins recent fuel starvation issues are finally sorted. The problem turned out to be the fuel tank. Now after a thorough flush and a new larger diameter pickup she is now running sweetly. However I think I am in need of a new voltage regulator as her charging is intermittent at best. Either that or she shall be getting an alternator conversion.

Gremlins now running nicely and is getting some miles under her belts at last. She's cruising happily at national speed limit, no flat spot misfires or stalling. I have to tweak the idle speed down as she is ticking over a little bit fast oh and from the last 194 miles she used 17l or £20, tankful to tankful. That works out approx 50mpg so she must be doing something right

New additions made today to improve the driving experience. Gremlin now has door mirrors. I am also in the process of making up a centre console for mounting oil temp, clock, voltmeter, vacuum gauges as well as an auxillary socket and head unit mounting. For the moment have a photo of Gremlin wearing her new bling

The inevitable happened today I guessed how much fuel I had left wrong and ran out of fuel oops. I really do need to get my fuel gauge working so if anyone has a working sender unit pretty please can I buy it asap. Apart from that front she really has been doing sterling service doing 50 miles a day 4 days a week without any real problems.
Saying that though this weekend will see her treated to a full service. I also enquired with the local bodyshop to get a quote on sorting out the ding in the front wing. Sadly the metal is distorted and cannot be fixed as a paintless repair. The bodyshop says they can fix it no problem but i'm looking at approx £800 and it would be cheaper to source another wing and repaint it. For the moment I've balked at that price and she can live with a dented wing!
To do list for the near future.
Centre Console - I'm going to make one out of sheet steel either painted to match silver stripe on the dash or black flocked. Will contain, Clock, Oil temp/pressure gauge, Radio, 12V socket, Imobiliser remote holder (this will be an induction loop sensor similar to what is used on Caterham 7 working to cut power to coil and fuel pump), Radio, and either a vacuum gauge or a rev counter though I going towards vacuum gauge being more useful at the moment.
New Belts - Run out of adjustment and started squelling again. Primary gearbox leak Rust spots, Some welding required at the base of drivers front wing where it meets sill, A pillar just above upper door hinge. Drivers side rear jacking point. Various bits of surface rust elsewhere.

I took this little video a week or so ago and thought I would share it here. In this Gremlin is fully warmed up and running nicely. She is a touch revvy at this speed but if I can get her above 40mph, which is not safe on that road, she gets considerably quieter. It's been a while since I was regularly driving a DAF so from the video how would you rate Gremlin's performance.

Gremlin was naughty this morning. We were happily buzzing along when the engine just died, the wipers froze midscreen and the only electrical item left working where the headlamps. Turned out the alternator gave up the ghost, back fed all the electrics and blew nearly every fuse.

Well, that's what fuses are for! Bit of a bummer but there's plenty more that could have gone wrong I suppose.
