Hello strangers, long time not here...
Sorry, been a bit of a crappy 2015 for me. But anyhow, have decided that a certain 33 van could do with some love. I'm looking to renew some brake lines and want to have a crack at doing it myself. Can anyone recommend a brake line cutting and flaring kit? I'm happy to invest up to £50 on something half decent that could see some use of its easy to use and fairly decent quality. I intend to use cuniper lines as it's a bit more forgiving, less brittle. Can anyone advise which size/type unions are to be found on a 33?
Thanks,
Pete.

Pete, Copper Nickel / Cupronickel / Kunifer is what you intend When I did the brake pipes on the 66 (is it really 8/9 years ago??), I bought an Oakes flaring tool from Automec. At the time they were about 80 quid, but they appear to be double that now It was a good solid tool to hold in the vice and came with the dies to flare standard brake pipes. Also I could buy separately special dies for flaring Citroen hydro pipes, etc. Some of the basic hand-held ones are just pants and will only flare soggy copper. If you give them anything more challenging to flare the dies break. Avoid these: That's not to say hand-held ones aren't handy for doing stuff on-vehicle, but get a half-decent one if you're going down that road. Here's a quick vid showing the pants one versus a modern-day Sykes stylee one: I'd perhaps play the long game and stake out a second-hand Sykes Pickavant job if you can find one at the right price. I know they might be double bubble on the budget, but they are worth it and you can always recoup the outlay should you get bored of making pipes for everyone The unions I'm not sure of. I think they are supposed to be M10 x 1.0mm parallel threads, but then if someone has fitted alternative wheel cylinders, it may be a mixed-bag of imperial threads. So my best advice there would be to get a thread gauge on what you have in your hand and take it from there.

Thanks Rich! I think I'll hold out for something decent.
Merry Xmas all.
