Becky, my 33, has been out of order for ages as we can not diagnose fault. something has caused the near side front wheel to move backwards until it fouls the wheel arch. there is no obvious reason for this but my garage suggests a faulty front transverse spring. Does this sound likely and if so does anyone have a spare one for me to buy? I miss being able to use her vey much.

To be honest I can think of little else it could be with that suspension setup other than a bent strut which would be glaringly obvious. If you can't find a replacement spring take the existing one down to an old school blacksmith. They should be able to straighten and re-temper the leaves for you. This can be done with any leaf spring that isn't cracked and even if a leaf is cracked they should be able to make a new one using the old one as a template.
