Hello all whos up for a build thread then, its been a while.... I recently decided whilst I loved the purr of the honda cub engine the monkey thing has been done in my mind.. already owning a Bsa Airel 3 leaning trike I realised I had the perfect solution, the blue Air 3 that I godt off of Howard I would leave stock but the remains of the orange one I also had showed potential... anyways enough jabbering heres some pics I hope Take one very dead Air 3 that is missing near everything and buy a lovely low mileage c50le engine off ebay (yes 3spd fully auto so no gearchange to worry about) After setting it up technically (blocks of oily pine) then try on the bodywork to see if its going to fit its tight, really really tight but it does just fit in there and the only place the carburettor can go is where the original petrol tank used to be so thats going to be a headache. Cut header off a standard JC monkeypipe, and attatch it to a stock air 3 pipe (will get modded a bit) add convert plate to run oil cooling to help a bit Originally the air 3 was driven by a tiny cambelt onto this pulley that then drives the reduction gears and the wheel (only driven on the left wheel. . . great for corners) I plan to cut the middle out of this and machine it so I can bolt monkey rear sprockets to it asw it has 3 legs so perfect for the 3 bolt fixing as you can see in this pic with a sprocket bolted to the outside of a dummy sprocket and retainer (in effect an offset sprocket) and a dax sprocket tack welded in where the monkey one will bolt the alignment is pretty good I have enough leeway to adjust the lower gear about 3mm to the right if need be, not figured out chain tensioning yet though
