I think those two plates hold the outer plastic cover for the transmission. They fit at the front part onto the air channels that blow onto the belts. They don't look as thick as they should be and too new? Worth a try though.

Find the mistake... However, i drove Gina from the south of Italy to Rome, 490 km at least 100 km/h. Gina drank a liter of petrol every 12 km. I think not so bad. Only one (big) problem: after a slight downhill stretch, stopping, the engine turns off, and engulfs itself. Hard to start again but then it runs perfectly ... problably too much gasoline in carburetor, i have to check settings and float.

Wow..Gina is looking very nice,like how a couple of your pics make her look black.. As for the cutting out,it does sound like she is flooding herself,possible a sticky float...
