Hi, removed the engine today[even remembered to disconnect the short earth cable under the clutch!].I need to check the clutch and drum, clean the engine ,repaint any parts necessary, get the wife to polish the rocker covers, adjust the valve clearances, replace the broken generator belt, fit a 12volt starter, then repaint the engine compartment[Just hoping I'm still strong enough to lift the engine on the bench]. If not I'll take the starter off and the clutch drum and try again, perhaps with my wife's help!!!............starider
PS another "light bulb" moment...I'll use the mini digger!...............starider

Mini digger would work well Tony..maybe even the wife 😉
Not worth hurting yourself,I'm finding it difficult enough moving my stock...and I'm a fair few years younger😕..
Impressed at how quickly your getting this van restored..well done.

Hi Matt,
Mini digger worked perfectly, engine on a bench and hope to remove clutch and check shoes and drum. Can see the clutch segments through holes in drum and they all seem reasonable. I've seen in the past where if the engine hasn't been run for years and stored in a damp atmosphere, the friction material separates from the metal shoe/s. I have decided to fit new parts. Several years ago I had a 44 which wouldn't come out of drive and I knew it was clutch friction material loose in the drum, so that was another clutch to fit.Yes I am getting on quite well, being unable to leave home I have extra time.We have a wooded area which is getting much needed attention.I'm off down there now.

Hi Tony..
Have also come across many clutch shoe linings that need replacing..Dafs that had not been used for some time and then used again normally throw their linings...or clips.. Bell housings also hide shoes that need work..when removed some linings normally come away..
Wooded area sounds good..exercise and downtime from the Daf..

Yes, been down all afternoon, brambles everywhere, all the pathways and most of the christmas trees covered in brambles, cut and pulled out most of it from the trees then ran the flail mower down the path ways, all looks good.Tomorrow trailer out the cuttings to the fire pit allow to dry, then when the wind is from the E or NW burn it! Next, a day[my days work at the moment is the afternoon] on the van and pull off the clutch drum with the slide hammer and see what state the clutch is in,although replacing it.The wife is going to polish the rocker covers,I'll photograph before and after and put pics.on proboards.
It's pretty quiet on here,I would have thought more folks would be on here!

Hi, still working away at the van, finished painting the engine compartment, which I did by hand, took a while using three different sized brushes.I didn't want the hassle of removing the wiring harness, speedo & throttle cables etc.to be able to spray paint.I must admit it looks OK. Just waiting for the new clutch and drum to arrive and once fitted to the engine, that can be re-fitted into the van. I'm trying to find a pair of good doors and waiting for feed back.If I can't find a pair I'm going to have to make two complete new door bottoms + outer skin panels, a major under taking which will hold the project up for many weeks.Still it looks as though we are all going to have time on our hands for some considerable time to come. One of our daughters who is a senior nurse organiser and nurse practitioner is just recovering from the virus and will soon be back in the front line. Our other daughter[specialist diabetic nurse] has been taken from her diabetic clinic and is now working in the community visiting folks with the virus in their homes! We're so proud of them. Like you folks and to them also, please stay safe!!............starider
