Good evening
Now i have two variomatic valve on my Daf... how do I remove the rubber stops to fix the working one?? I'm afraid of breaking them! I don't know the right method ... I disassembled the glove box, and I could also use three nuts and bolts, in case of breakage of the rubber stops. But I would like to save them. An alternative would be to mount the solenoid of overdrive of the working valve on that broken, could it be a good idea? Thanks!

I removed the vacuum valve from a Daf 66 by using a small (very small!) screwdriver to gently push the thick piece of the rubber mounting through the plastic opening on the solenoid bracket. The three rubber bungs then remain attached to the car's bulkhead and the solenoids can be removed with ease..... well, relative ease! Once the solenoid's been repaired, or a new one acquired, refitting is much easier-no, it really is! The rubber bungs can be gently pulled through the opening in the solenoid board more easily than it's pushed out. The reason I did it this way was because, although it's not an easy manoeuvre, removing the rubber bungs from the other side (passenger side) of the bulkhead seemed impossible to me! When last I did this I was well under 30, and it seemed impossible then. As I'm now nearly 60 I KNOW it'd be impossible for me and I can only envisage doing it by keeping the rubber bungs in place on the bulkhead.

Stefano..
As Andrew has mentioned, using a small screwdriver, you can also pop the rubber mounts from the bulkhead.. This will remove the vacuum valve away from the car and you can detach the valve from the mounts.. Please remember that the mounts are only rubber and can break easily..
Let us know how you get on..
Matt.

Did you get the rubber bungs out in 1 piece or did they break?

I just wondered if the vacuum valve was mounted on rubber to prevent any vehicular vibration from reaching it. Bolting it to the bulkhead might allow some shaking of the valve, which might cause long-term problems. Just a thought.......

Nice job Stefano.. Did you get the rubber bungs out in 1 piece or did they break? Only two out of three, so i decided to use nuts and bolts. Removing the rubber stops from the valve is very difficult, to put the bolts I had to disassemble the glove-box, an easy job.

Bolting it to the bulkhead might allow some shaking of the valve, which might cause long-term problems. Just a thought....... I recovered the central part of the rubber stops, however the valve only touches rubber parts, and using self-locking nuts I didn't have to tighten too much. I hope it will work well!
