Well done that man, and Mushy of course! What's the law there with registration plates, is it that there is no requirement for the front plate and you can put whatever you like on there? Is that Federal law? I remember being told in Fl not to reverse into a space as the car could be towed away!

Plate wise it is different state to state whether or not you must have a front plate. In NY for example I must have one. BUT, some states you can put on the year of manufacture if you register with a "Historic" Registration, and in some years in those states there was only one plate. Then it would be legal. For example, in NY 1965, the year of my DAF 31, I have a 1965 NY plate to register with the car. 1964-1965 was the year of the NY World's Fair so they had a vanity plate in the front promoting it. Even cooler was the beginning letters of the plates in that era in NY were what county the car was registered from and I have a plate from my county! As far as Florida...well that's Florida for ya Vince

Cheers Guys...So far MUSHY V has received two show awards this year, bringing her total to four since 2013. I think I may just change the entire Speedo unit. I fear that may be the issue since the Odometer works well. In Vermont the State only issues a single license plate for Vintage, Classic and/or Antique vehicles so we can display ANYTHING (or nothing) we want on the front. (some States only issued a single to daily drivers, like Florida & Pennsylvania)...there is no set of regulations throughout the "United States". John

I only drove 13 miles to the Manchester Car Show (7 June) with SARGE and this happened... Total cord separation on the front tyres which were Dunlops. Luckily, I was able to locate a set of brandy new 145R-14 Firestones on Flea-bay for an excellent price. Not a single local dealer had, or could get, them. $ 89.00 each with free shipping...Damn good price. Yesterday the new "Ditchfinders" were put on. HAPPY HAPPY John

Indeed Nick. Old tyres are bad and these were no exception. Glad I changed all five of them. So no more worries. I've spent the last 3 days tooling with SARGE (rear brake cylinders changed, Solex refurbish, changing vacuum hoses, rewiring the Vacuum valve. Basically a lot of small issues which needed attention. By the way....the rear cylinders on SARGE are NOT standard DAF 66 units. They were standard "A" body rear cylinders. YES, both are listed in the YA parts manuals. YES, both types were used (but mine has the "A" type). Strange, VERY strange. John

Onward & Forward..... I've had to rebuild the front Calipers on SARGE (part of my lack of braking was the fact there was almost no pad material remaining) Hopefully the only issue remaining is the lack of "kickdown" (still an on-going problem ). I may have to recheck the wires on the new Vacuum Valve since I am not hearing the familiar "Click, Clack" noise for an operational valve. ... other than that SARGE is running fine and looks great. One of the biggest mistakes DAF ever made was the use of solid wheels on the early models... I have a nice tyre changing machine ...but can't use it. All the older 12 inch wheels must be manhandled into submission because they have no center hole. After that the can be sandblasted and painted. Balancing is also a major issue. I've had to adapt a bubble balancer (adding an extra machinist bubble on the wheel) to somewhat get balance. There is also the old tried & true method of putting the wheel on the car, loosening the bearing a little and spinning it until it stops. A weight is then placed at the top. John
