I am glad to report that SARGE is now 98%. The recent brake issue has been solved (one set of re-lined shoes were too thick & too wide which caused lockup on one wheel) as well as replacement of flex hoses. The Vacuum problem has also now been taken care of (hopefully)...at least the new 24 volt valve is operating as it should with the familiar "click clack" noise. Just one more small issue to take care of at the Solex, air/fuel mixture, so that he does not stall when brakes are applied. Road test later on today. Also on a happy note. Thanks to JosK. the museum was sent this very desirable large scale (radio controlled) DAF 44 Fire car, These are getting harder and harder to find. John

The latest (and sometimes not the greatest) news from across the great pond... Lately I have been toying with SARGE and decided to replace the Primary unit. After discovering a massive spline seal leak (& a blown Bellows on one side) it would be easier just to replace it. The old unit wrestled out after finding out that it had already been replaced once before (and of course, not the proper way) New (yes, brand new) unit painted up & prepped in Military Green... Thanks to our old club Director I had 2 brand new 66 Varios in inventory. After an afternoon of pushing, lifting and prodding the new Primary was in place. I'm getting too old for this shite. Afterwards I was extremely sore & tired. But, with the help of my self made Variomatic Belt Tool it only took 15 minutes to install the Belts. Now just to adjust them and take it for a spin around the block. We had another surprise yesterday. A couple from Towanda, Pennsylvania joined the DCA. They just purchased this 1963 DAF Daffodil Type 30. This brings our membership over 90 in the USA now (still a very small number when you think about how large the USA is) John

Having finally worked out all the "bugs" on the DAF 66-YA it was time to return to another gut wrenching project. POSTAL PETE ! What can I say? Other than SHITE. The electrical Gremlins were hard at work during my absence with the end result being there were now massive problems in the wiring. Almost nothing worked anymore (when it worked it had earth issues). The most logical step was to purchase a stick of Dynamite and blow P.P. up....decided to take out my frustrations out on all the wires instead. Every wire has been stripped out (except Alternator, Starter & Brake Switch). Now to gather all my supplies and begin at square one...including a new 12 station fuse box! It took a long afternoon to complete all the new wires to the rear lighting (which included the fuel level electrics). A new electrical schematic was also drawn for my own reference. The last step for the rear was to replace & relocate the conduit for the wires to the front distribution block. The new conduit can now be reached easily (old one was mounted deep in the tunnel behind the propshaft and not even Houdini could have reached it) John

Making (slow & painful) progress with Postal Pete... I had "Swedish Spaghetti" for lunch yesterday. To date all the rear lighting and some of the front lighting has been finished off. Presently trying to figure out the engine compartment and interior wires. It's a nightmare because there are no references to go by (6 to 12 volt conversions for a Kalmar do not exist) John

I'd so like to go to this. Perhaps time to broach the subject with Mrs G.

Mr De Bruin, we have a bone to pick with you...we now know why you feel so at home when you visit us! Turns out Vermont has two towns of particular interest, one called Colchester and the other is called Essex. And you have a DAF (well, a few actually) and a camera. Both towns have road signs;) You kept that one from us!
