I also think I should change the variomatic gear oil, as it's likely that it has been in there for quite a long time... I have 80W90 and 75W90 in the shed, has anyone used any of the two in their variomatic ? ATF injected with a syringe IIRC Let's clear this up, there are 6 places where lube goes: 1) Front power divider 2) Front left primary drum behind the diaphragm 3) Front right primary drum behind the diaphragm 4) Rear diff 5) Rear left secondary inner 6) Rear right secondary inner 1 and 4 use EP80 gear oil. (80W90 and 75W90 should be okay, as they're just modern multigrades) 2 and 3 use ATF and this can be poured in if the cover rings, covers are removed and the diaphragm lifted to get in behind it (remember to mark the components to retain balance) 5 and 6 use ATF and this is what you would use a syringe for as there is a non-vacuum diaphragm on those secondary inners.

Thanks Paul and Rich !
Rich, I presume that the areas lubricated with EP80 have cogs and bearings in them (which is why I'm anxious to give them fresh oil). But I'm not sure what bits the ATF is meant to cool/lubricate ? You wouldn't happen to have any large, detailed variomatic diagrams lying around, would you ?

Good info as always, Mac, although it's worth noting that on the A bodies the front power divider uses ATF as well

You know all Dafs are the same according to some!

You guys are a true font of DAF wisdom !
Has anyone considered putting together a DAF maintenance/restoration wiki ?

Yes, I've thought about it. I was involved in an initial project to do a V300 one, but as I wasn't admin, I couldn't do much about the deluge of spam that affected it after two months. The admin wasn't around much, if at all. It would need to be on registered basis so that page vandalism could be prevented/dealt with easily. In the meantime just keep asking questions... (I haven't found a scan yet as the big diagrams are on big pages which don't quite fit in the scanner, so they'll be done when I have more time to scan them zone by zone and stitch them back together).

It's been ages since I posted anything on here... The reason is that things have been fairly busy at Fraud towers recently, with not much time for DAF tinkering.
Ena's vacuum control valve has been rebuilt, and tomorrow's task is to install it and take her for a long test drive... I shall keep you updated !

We know the "too busy for Dafs" feeling well around here lately.
