Further inspection revealed that the valve hole on that wheel was the size of a 1p coin, probably due to corrosion, and a tube had been bodged in to make the wheel useable. I would say it was the absolute opposite. The tube would have been put in because most tyre fitters won't mount a tubeless tyre to a tubeless rim if it doesn't have the safety hump that resists the tyre rolling off the rim. Then water collects round the valve hole and then you get a big hole. (Previously I had a "keyhole" shaped valve hole due to corrosion in a wheel which had a tube fitted, the other wheels didn't have a great big hole, but were rusty in that area)

I'm not sure but I'll leave Matt to answer that one. Certainly the 13" wheels are more popular because they give more tyre options (and more importantly better prices) so they tend to be more in demand.
I had the same with my wheels as you describe. Three of mine had inner tubes and as I was putting tubeless tyres on my rims my friend Martin who was fitting the tyres had to drill out the valve hole to make it large enough to fit a modern valve. Thankfully I didn't have any rust around mine though and they appear to be holding air (touch wood).

Update !
There was still light when I came back from work today, so I grasped the opportunity to do some quick DAF tinkering.
Ever since I bought Ena, the offside window has been jammed. I suspected there was something amiss inside the door, as the lock push button was very stiff and the door refused to lock despite copious amounts of WD40.
So I took the door panel off to see what was happening - four Phillips screws and a few sturdy, metal clips hold it in place, so much better than the fragile, single-use plastic clips that most modern cars use.
I inspected the mechanism and fiddled with it a bit to understand how it works. It soon became apparent that some idiot had taken it apart in the past and had put it back together in the wrong way ! It's the first rule of car restoration, I guess, "never assume that the previous guy put things back together correctly" !
All I had to do was to unscrew the glass guide from the door, move it slighly upwards and screw it back in the correct position. The window now opens and closes easily, the door button works smoothly and I'm even able to lock the door ! Result !
To celebrate, I gave the car a quick rinse, as it was covered in bird poo ! I may often proclaim that I like shitty cars, but I don't mean it in the literal sense !
If the weather allows, I'll commute in the beast on Friday, to continue with the shakedown !

I don't think I'll be attacking Ena with a polishing mop anytime soon, but it's still good to know !
I reckon she will need to be clayed first : I had noticed areas of white spots on the bonnet and roof, which I previously thought were overspray but are actually lichen ! The joys of keeping cars outdoors, I suppose.

Update !
Ena has been earning her keep over the last two weeks as I've been using her for commuting and for various errands.
Everything seems to be working fine and she seems to use no coolant or oil. However, her appetite for petrol is disproportionate to her size and performance - or lack thereof.
Nothing has fallen off yet, apart from the exhaust rubber that I had hastily replaced with an over-size item back in January. I've ordered some smaller ones, but for the time being zip-ties will have to do.
I tried to fix the annoying oil filler cap leak by making a seal out of some cork-nitrile sheet, but some oil is still seeping through ! I don't know if the cap or the rocker cover are to blame, I may try changing both for those off my spare engine and see what happens. I'll probably take the opportunity to do the valve clearances at the same time, which I secretly hope will help performance and consumption.
Talking of annoying things, the right front brake has started making a most irritating squeal. The plan is to investigate this morning, once I've finished my coffee and stopped reading car forums !

Glad to hear she is getting regular use. They've never been the most economical cars, if you can get 30mpg then you're doing well. They are good at shaking off exhaust donuts. You can fit oversize then pull them tight with the cable tie, but belts and braces but does the job.
Any news on that interior yet?
