found the cause of my massive oil leak on the daf in the form of a split on the bottom of a pushrod tube (no wonder its leaking a LOT) for now ive managed to wiggle a jubilee clip and a piece of silicon pipe around where the split is in the vain hope it will help a bit, but is it possible to change a pushrod tube without taking the engine out because to be honest this engine comes out the car as often as I do and im getting pretty peeved off with doing it............

I think it might be possible Nick. If you support the engine on a jack and disconnect the mounts on the affected side then you could lower it enough to slide off the cylinder head though the wheel arch (having removed the road wheel first, of course!). I know this is possible with the 33 so it figures you may be able to do it on A bodies. There's nothing really to lose because if it doesn't work you'll have to pull the engine anyway!

Can't you just modify it so the engine's all on quick release fasteners? You could have 3 minute engine changes that way and go to the Royal Tournament Other than that, as Pete says, try lowering that side, or drill holes through the inner wing / chassis rail for the pushrods to come through. Once they're out of the way you shouldn't need to completely remove the head as long as you can get it far enough from the block to release the tubes.

i think if I can get teh pushrod tube out the block then it AND the pushrod can be dropped out from below.. will let you know how that went in practise

Good thinking - with the rockers out the way I reckon you might just be onto something!
