With Dotty almost finished now, and knowledge of a solid little 44 needing a new home the inevitable has happened, Dotty has a stablemate. It all started a couple of months ago, I found myself on a smallholding in deepest Yorkshire. Present also was a very familiar face more used to Southern climes. As the sun beat down with only the odd rumble of thunder! (private joke) I was treated to many amazing automotive sights. One though was the reason for my visit, a maroon 1975 44. I was smitten, even though she had not been on the road for years. A deal was done, a week or two later she was recovered home, and work commenced. She may not look her best at the moment, but every panel is original and very solid. A look at the underside reveals nothing to worry about. The engine has now been serviced, the brakes freed off and checked over so I can move her about. This will not be a quick job, despite being a solid car, there is much to be done, in fact I think she will keep me smiling for months. This thread will be updated as and when I complete each task.

A little progress made today, and some polishing of the bodywork paid dividends. It is a car of two halves at the moment. I have to say the back end polished up nicely. And what a difference a bit of elbow grease makes!! And the other side.

The new 44 got a bit of attention today. Firstly new wheels, and what a difference it makes to her appearance. And new number plates. Then a little tweaking under the bonnet to get the engine running smoother. Bit by bit she is coming along.

So, with the nice weather I got a little bit more done. Firstly, she has had a nice little front disc conversion done at some point, the pads were shot so nice new ones fitted. Flexi hoses look good so nothing to do there :-) One other little job was to secure the rubber gaiter as it is a mot fail. She started up straight away and ran really nice, I was so tempted to go a run round the block but resisted, not worth it without MOT :-((

Making slow but steady progress on the Maroon marvel. The only serious rust I can find at the moment is a tiny hole where the spare rubs the inner wing, and a hole in the floor about the size of a slice of bread. I cut back to good metal, made templates out of some DAF metal, and a mate kindly welded them in for me. This is the floor done and dynaxed. It is now a possibility once I either fix or (temp.) remove the side indicators that she could be put in for a test.
