What I normally do is fill the radiator, pull the spark plugs, turn off the petrol supply and remove the thermostat (before putting on the V-belt) No compression, so motor turns over easily (by using the fan blades) to fill all the nooks & crannies. Then, after I'm satisfied that the lump is filled I'll put the plugs back in to run the motor....then the thermostat will be put back when all the air is gone. It may seem a lot of effort but it is certainly better than risking damage. John

still cant see you spinning the pump fast enough to fill the "nooks and crannies", personally I used to do this...
Heater controls on FULL HEAT fill radiator to brim crack a heater hose clip till water appeared at that point (provided they were lower than rad filler neck or else do it with the motor running) run it at tickover watching the filler neck carefully for bubbles and fluid level drop Consult the proper handbook to see if any other bleed points are fitted (most renaults have them on the hoses as do Peugeots) run engine until the heater is actually creating hot air and the top radiator hose is becoming warm (indicating thermostat open) Top up radiator take it for a short blast re-top up radiator jobs a goodun

should add in 13 years of mechanics I only had one car that wouldnt bleed up with that method, turned out the impellor had fallen off the water pump (renault... F2N series engine) oh and a VW watercooled van due to the length of the water pipes, but lifting the arse up in the air with the ramp cured that one

Vince C. has taken his (yet unnamed) 66 Coupe' out of Winter storage. He is busy preparing for the first car show on 5th of May. ;D ;D ;D ;D Bob C. is planning a trip down here next weekend to work on EFY. ;D ;D ;D ;D Finally have Mushy V sorted and she is running sweetly. Just another Valve adjustment to reduce some more noises and she will be back to her old self. ;D She is scheduled for the paint shop in about three weeks. ;D Marilyn (the 343) has a temporary rebuilt dizzy until another 123ignition unit arrives from DAFHobby (the first one was lost in transit ). I've had to convert a different Ducellier by changing over the Vacuum advance module and make due for the first car show in a few weeks. In the meantime.....onward with Postal Pete! Motor is now in, bolted up securely, connected to the Vario and all the hook-ups have been made (except Alternator) I'll have to wait with the exhaust system due to a lack of inventory of a cross pot but there is still plenty of other things to do. ...such as trying to mount the lower grille. Yes, the Type 1 Kalmar used a DAF 44 lower grille. ...and repairing the Vario covers. Just a few corners to fiberglass (thank you Canadian Postal drivers) and mend. John

without being rude can I ask why you have fitted the light bowls and stuff before you have painted the wings?? surely it would be better to have paint right up behind the fittings for protection . . and to not have a ridge where the paint will meet its eventual masking

Not to worry Nick. Assemble first...then dismantle just before paint. Just like any good restorer does to make sure everything fits properly. i.e.- the buckets. Wings have had extensive repairs and holes were rebuilt with a lot of fiberglass so had to be sure of a proper fit. i.e- same applies to front panel. i.e.- lower grille. exact fit was hard due to wing repairs so some modifications had to be made. Items like this would have been impossible after paint. PS...did you post a video on the DCA forum as "Nick & Gina" instead of "NICK46" ?? Did you forget your password M8 ?? ;D ;D John

Not being an electrical expert (FAR FROM IT !! ) I've spent many days trying to figure out how to wire in the 12 volt 850cc motor. Many drawings, lots of time spent in the 44 & 46 Service manuals to come up with this.... This will not be fun. Today, rolled up my sleeves and made an attempt to finish the wiring....Oh God, what did I get into? Mounted and wired a 12 volt Voltage Regulator salvaged from Butterscotch (which has a new Alternator). Stripped all the rubber and electrical tape off the harness...then wired in the Alternator, Starter, oil sensor and coil. All the wires were then put into a plastic loom & secured. Maybe tomorrow, if I feel lucky or brave, I might put the fuses in and hook a battery to the system. What's the worst that could happen...besides catching fire. John

The worst that can happen with electrics is that it all works perfectly first time, then word gets out and you find everyone asking you to take a look at theirs Great progress on PP there, John ;D
