The anwser to that one Ken is yes on both accounts. The oil screen was badly sludged up so all of this is down to oil starvation combine that with the turbo blowing the engine oil into the cylinders. Basicly this is what happens when an engine runs out of oil.

She is nearly there now, just need the new battery to arrive and she can be started I did try using the Triumphs battery today but it was asking a bit too much of it.
List stands such now.
Start engine and bleed radiator and power steering thourighly. Refit intercooler and airbox.
So nearly there. Will probably take her down to a local garage and get them to fine tune the injection timing as I don't have the special tool required.

2 steps forward 1 step back. Had already to start today turned the key and whiirrrrr. First thought faulty solonoid so pulled the starter off again at this point I realised it wasn't the right one. The throw out on the pinion gear is about 1/3 inch shorter than the old one as the pinion sits further back into the housing on the new one. Bugger! Oh and doubly so for not noticing as before fitting it!

What's the latest ? John the latest is me trying to find another starter motor without breaking the bank. I must have sent 30 emails to various people with second hand starters for sale asking what part number is stamped on them (there are 3 different types and they look very similar), and have not had a single response yet. Im not buying unless I know its the right part especially as I have already bought the wrong one, so may bight the bullet and order another. The engine is in the car everything is connected and fluids have been filled and bled as much as is possible without the engine running. I just need the new starter motor and then we can see how she runs. The only thing that I am slightly concerned about is the injection pump timing as I have had to swap the pump from the old engine and don't have the service tool required to accuratly set it up. Oh and hows this for stupid design. The timing mark for the injection pump is on a part of the pulley that must be removed before the belt can be put on or off. Oh this part can physically be put on in 4 different orientations. 2 are clearly wrong from photographs but ive seen the pumps fitted with the number next to the timing mark or 180 degrees from it. So I now have this nagging feeling that the injection pump may be 180 degrees out of time. (my fault I managed to run off my tipex markings doh!) I really hope not as removing the crank pulley is an absolute curse word to do. The retaining nut is done up to 186NM which makes it bloody hard to stop yourself from just turning the engine over when undoing it.

Had her out and about proper for the first time today and she runs very nicely indeed. However I noticed at 50mph the steering wheel developed a rather nasty wobble. Discovered that there a lot of play in the steering idler arm so that is to be changed as well now. That one shouldn't have been the case it passed an MOT two weeks before we bought it and that should have been picked up. Why couldn't it just have been wheel balancing?

Hmm, sounds like another Blind Bob McBlind MOT using telepathy.
