Done a fair few miles in this now and it does seem to be going pretty well. Engine is good, smooth quiete and powerful it also feels like it would pull the side of a house. The only issue at the moment is a vibration noticable above 50mph. It cant be felt through the steering wheel but can be felt through the seats and is worse in the back it may just be down to the fact its running all terrain tyres but will be checking the wheel balance on the rear axle anyway. Ive had it over the pit to change the exhaust and all mountings, bushes and linkages appear to be good

Check you universal joints on the prop shaft Paul...those will cause the vibration you describe.

I will check the UJs but I think it is likely down to wheel balancing as I can drive through the vibration. Having had it out this morning again this is what we have.
Up to 46mph no vibration 46mph to 52mph the seats vibrate and your teeth fall out push it past 55mph and the vibration is gone again.

Rear wheels balanced. But have found another problem thats needs fixing before this can be driven again. Somehow today I have managed to snap two leaves of the offside rear spring. I will be replacing both rear springs with new items.

I thought it might be time to give a little update on this one as it has kind of started of with us as it intended to continue. So since the last update she has had. New rear leaf springs and hangers. The springs are uprated by 20% so she is better at lugging loads and sits 1/2 an inch higher. New rear shockers again uprated gas assisted ones and although the ride when unladen is now appalling the way she drives when laden is transformed. A gearbox mounting Propshaft bearing and UJs replaced. Full set of glow plugs Full new exhaust system Im currently sorting a few issues that have cropped up recently and the MOT is now due. These include a slipping and snatching clutch, a worn out rear differential, and a set of replacement brake pads, made a lot harder by the sliding pins having seized in the calliper carriers and snapped off. Just to make things worse I don't seem able to buy new carriers as this particular truck seems to use obselete callipers. Oh I also need to sort out this nasty bit of rot that is definatly an MOT fail. so that it looks a little more like this side where ive cut the rusted crap out and let a new section in using 1.2mm thick steel. That I can tell you was not easy to shape. Then the whole underside is getting wire brushed down, rust treated and then covered in waxoyl.

Underside now fully under-sealed and MOT for another year obtained.
True to form she needed some work in order to gain a pass.
Rebushed front shock absorbers and ARB. New front to rear brake pipes. New front solid brake pipes. Load sensing valve bracket re welded to the chassis. New load valve to rear flexi brake pipe. 2 side lamp bulbs New rear reflectors Fog lamp unit. Rear brakes both side needed the auto adjusters tweaked so that they actually worked. N/S front calliper.
She passed with two advisories.
1. Front and rear tyres different sizes. 2. One rear brake line slightly corroded.
Number 1 is not a problem as I have the all terrains on route to go on soon anyway. 2 will take roughly ten minutes to put right.
Do I dare to say that I have defeated the evil pick up im not sure but I hope so.
