News! We are tryng to install new belts... Mechanic says that the new are too short!!! Naturally the new are correct, are half centimeter larger and some centimeter shorter... The problem is how to open the secondary pulleys? Put the belt over the secondaries and use a large C clamp over the belt. This will push the belt down into the pulley and in the process force the pulley open. Then put a 22mm spacer in place between the two pulley halves and remove the clamp. The belt should then go on. In future when you spread the secondaries to remove the old belt put a spacer in then. As for the wedge of wood trick that will work on A body cars but you'll struggle on a B body due to the secondary springs being much stronger

Good news (i hope), vario belts fitted! this afternoon i'll go to test Gina on the road. I have to control if: 1. there is motor brake effect 2. low ratio command works 3. noises and vibrations are decrease 4. if I can finally reach 65 miles per hour ) Finger crossed.

1. there is motor brake effect There is! 2. low ratio command works Works! 3. noises and vibrations are decrease Remains as the effect of a tire slightly ovalized between 50 and 60 km per hour, on the rear left size, perhaps the primary out of balance? Noise and vibration from the transmission drastically reduced. 4. if I can finally reach 65 miles per hour ) Didn't test max speed... however, the behavior of the car is much improved, with the throttle steady speed increases gradually, when you reach the desired speed, decreasing the gas, the speed remains the same.

I dared! Gina reaches 130 km/h (about 65 mph), I did not push it further because I was not alone in the car... The stability at that speed is good, but there's so much noise! However, the arrangement of the transmission sharply improved driveability. Departures, climbs and descents are no longer a problem. Now my hidden idea (to my wife ...) is start from Rome, arriving in Holland at Dafhobbye, and go up in Essex... Do you think it is too ambitious?

Well done that man! These cars don't like to sit still and they like to put miles on the clock, it's good for the belts and transmission. There's no reason why they shouldn't be good for long distance driving. Might be worth changing the coolant if that's not been done for a while. Of course, the destinations you chose will be handy should anything happen on the car because at DafHobby and at Essex we have lots of spare parts. You will be most welcome to visit us in Essex. If you are passing through the Netherlands and take the Hook of Holland Ferry then when you arrive in the UK you are only +/-20 miles away!

Gina reaches 130 km/h (about 65 mph), 130km/h = 81mph! 65mph is about 106km/h. Now my hidden idea (to my wife ...) is start from Rome, arriving in Holland at Dafhobbye, and go up in Essex... Do you think it is too ambitious? No. I went with my wife and then 5 month-old son from Ireland on the ferry, then 3 trains + taxi to collect a 1978 Volvo 343. Same day drove Slough-Dover for another ferry and drove to Paris. Then spent the rest of the holiday drivin. Paris - Pithiviers - Paris - Nevers - Brussels - Eindhoven - Antwerp - Eindhoven - Bonn - Hook of Holland - ferry to Harwich - Essex DAFs - Hitchen - Oxford - Holyhead - ferry to Dublin and home. Only about 3500km in a strange / unknown car. www.flickr.com/photos/19864651@N00/sets/72157627623209036/
