It also has the chrome strips on the boot and a rather 1970's "Variomatic" badge....

That's the one - it's a full 33 dash and dash top.
So, we have:
possibly valid "upgrades" / repairs:
dash paint bumper grille locking steering column electrical vacuum valve washer bottle external trim strips 12v electrics
Technically possible but unlikely "upgrades":
gear lever rear windows
Technically difficult and pointless changes:
twin jacking points (would need full inner and outer sill replacement)
Signs of ouright dodgyness:
chassis number plate rivetted onto bulkhead where it should be directly stamped.
With the seller seeming to ignore the question, when the new owner turns up all excited about his rare model who volunteers to tell him the good news that it's probably unique as the only Daf Ringer in history?

Yes indeed....a true case of FALSE ADVERTISEMENT (or stupidity. Take your choice.) Pity the poor bloke who purchases this only to find he now owns a less desirable model than he purchased. @nick...have you received a reply to your inquiry yet ?? I have just sent this off to the seller myself: Dear Sir, Are you quite sure of the identity of this DAF? There appears to be some discrepancies with the body, mechanics and electrical which make me wary of it being a true model 32. Regards, John

The sad thing is, it actually looks a very sound and solid looking car and, on condition alone, a good buy. Shame the seller didn't list it as a 33, or could have been more forthcoming about the identity issue.
I think it will sell well because it is shiny and a nice colour. But, on the other hand, a certain 32 which thinks it's a 33 didn't fare so well lately. Hey ho...

I have a theory
It could have always been a 33 but some one liked the plate a bit of a "nurd" or course. A cherished number can be swapped to make the car appear older this was possibly prior to free road tax days. But can't be made to look newer.
I used to do it to get old cars through the mot when they brought in the emissions as the mot man thought the car was old and did not need to be tested for emissions.
Could the riveted plate be from the original plate car or even more far fetched daf owner had a 32 loved it and up graded to a 33 due to accident or rot but being old couldn't remember the new number so kept the old one and put the plate on from his old car. Can't do it today because they are closed but Dvla might have info or previous owner Derek may have some history or a story.
If I can get to the bottom of it I am still interested in it but at 33 money of course. Is a 33 chassis number stamped or riveted and where should it be ie stamped number s on other cars were for example on rear crossmember and then plate riveted to bulk head. Does daf do this

@ Ozzie, The only real identification chassis number would be stamped on the bulkhead directly where the plate has been riveted (above the heat junction)on the bulkhead. Another way (but not accurate) would be the date stamps inside the wheels or on the casing of the speedo. PS...I have yet to receive a reply from the seller on Flea-Bay. John
