I'm currently waiting in Yodel. Oh dear. They are a shower of c....can't really say. Sig, Maybe your delay in despatch is one of those "yeah, we've got it" (meaning we'll get it) and they were waiting on the envelope coming in to re-ship the contents.

I've had dealings with them before Rich. I can collect from their premises which is half an hour's drive away but you have to give them 24 hours notice. Bloody ridiculous!

It's tempting to go on a long rant about Yodel's service*, but I reckon that even the entire contents of the profanisaurus wouldn't be vulgar enough ! I shall therefore refrain.
In other news, I couldn't resist bidding on an 850cc engine that appeared on evil-bay. I've now won the auction and need to find a way to explain to Mrs.Fraud that there will soon be two grimy engines cluttering the garden shed...

DAF Nut
Those who say it can't be done, should not interupt the people doing it !

Ozzie, I'm heading in that direction myself... I keep telling Mrs.Fraud that it's not actually a scrapyard, but an avantgarde art installation !
Matt, that engine has an interesting history : a farmer scrapped his old, rusty DAF but kept the engine and used it as a static engine to drive a small saw ! No idea what state the bearings, rings etc will be in, but considering that 44 bits aren't easy to come by I thought it was worth the gamble (and the salty postage !).

The postman delivered the new brushes this afternoon, so I went to the shed to finish the starter rebuild.
I began by cleaning everything with kerosene and a toothbrush. The surface of the commutator was then restored using a special tool that looks surprisingly like a bamboo skewer (effective and much gentler than the hacksaw blade that some people recommend).
I then tried to replace the worn out brush, but soon realised that my poxy 30W soldering iron simply wasn't up to the job. No problem, I thought to myself, there's a Maplin store in town. A ten minute drive later I was there :
-Do you have any decent soldering guns ? -Of course, sir... We sell the highest quality Weisswurst soldering guns... Here's the 100W model, yours for only £50.
Needless to say, I thanked him and walked away. I'll order a dangerous*, chinese-made one off ebay for a tenner and finish the rebuild next weekend.
