Hiya, I heard Pete mention my name. Hmm, the Series 1 Landie conversion is a bit poop IMHO, it's not electric but a big push button jobbie. I have heard mutterings that the generic 12v one's on ebay, the kits with washer bottle, wires and button are fine.
Am a bit stunned that she has such crustiness in the important little places after such a thorough resto not all that long ago.
Good luck with her.
Ken

Its my brothers it's his garage mine is not built yet . I will find out but it's not a real pricy one I think it's a machine mart special. I have a 100 amp Sealey mighty mig turbo from 1988 ind it's still going strong. The only repair it's had is a new on / off switch. The only maintance has been 1 liner. Various tips and shields oh and a new earth clamp and cable. I used a reliant robin battery cable for the cable.
How come you know about elders do you sell them?

Ken Hi it's gone down hill quite bad with bubbles every where the seam behind the rear bumper is bubbled all the way along the tops of the wings the bottoms of the rear wings don't exist. It's not a problem the resto was a rushed one done to a very fine budget that does not bode well for long life without rust protection. Some times it makes thing worse to do a bit of a rush than a proper job. It is what it is I wanted a 31,32 or 33 they are just no about at what I could afford. It's ok I have done other cars so I know what to expect ish. The difference is the parts are hard to come by you never know I might one day find one in a heated garage with 5 k on the clock one owner from new for a fiver laugh out loud for spairs

How come you know about elders do you sell them? No, just had one or two apart and can remember the colours of the various bits.

its rs a bit crusty in most of the normal places the rear wing bottoms have fell off the rear panel above the bumper is all crusty the front wing tops and window apatures oh and door bottoms. it looks as if the filler has retained the moisture against the freshly sanded metal or rusty bits and eaten it away. It's a shame but the rebuild was to a budget and for a reason ie charity. So things like rust prevention would have been minimal. I knew all that prior to buying and some of my buying price was going back to the charity so like I say it is what it is and I will do what I can with it. oh the holes are the beige bits as you know it gets worse when you start cleaning it up. please remember I am bodging it up for now I intend on doing a full body off resto in the future when my garage is done but I want to drive her a bit b4 then. you never know I might find a 5 k miler kept in a heated garage by the original owner who has only ever polished it twice a week with traditional wax

I did a fab how to build a beach buggy on south west buggy club site but the site has now died and I can't get the info off it there were 500 pics I am still struggling with pics here but will get it soon I hope. That build I did in 7 months flat with a post every night. But this will have to hang on a bit I have a garage and house to build but there will be some sneaky bits Today's info I picked up the daf 33 engine steering rack, steering wheel on column and fuel tank from Taunton I was after the clutch shoes to service Isabel's when I pull the engine to find out what the clunk is as the clutch takes up the drive I am confidant it is a shoe flinging out onto the clutch drum either cos the spring is missing/ broke or the lining is missing it happens when the revs pick up If I had to guess I would say it was the second stage of the clutch taking up.
Can any one break into an old web site that is now defunct. It was a board like this one but brown in colour.

Update Parts are being gathered. I am learning fast about dafs and enjoying the research. Those Dutch were clever you know. I am just about getting my head around it even the electrics are a bit wacky. I will report when I do the work. Next jobs are front suspension re do, wiring sorting, dash board face panel swap. Fuse box swap. Drivers windo wind up mechanism mend. Interior light mend. Then exhaust build and mot. I might get away with exhaust this time. But it will be interesting to find out if I can make a stainless zorst including heat exchangers. Is it important to be as intended.

Well, the owners club can provide a stainless system from front silencer backwards but it's not cheap - > £300 iirc. Will be interesting to see whether the heat exchangers can be replicated.
When you change over the nearside upright be careful with the speedo that takes drive from that side. There's a little retainer for the cable, try not to lose or danage it as replacements are hard to come by.
The fusebox shouldn't cause too many problems to change over, nor should the interior light. The dash panel should be ok, the clocks are held onto the back with clamps, can't remember whether they have to pull out. Think you'll need to disconnect the choke cable from the carb though and remove with the fascia.

Thank you I am looking forward to doing her. But I feel guilty about the digger and my family and the garage will make it better once it's done I can tinker every time it rains. If I had a garage now Isabel would already only have 10 k on the clock and be mint Remember Christine any one?
